A HOST of West Ham United legends took part in a charity day at Frinton Golf Club for Prostate Cancer UK.

Former Hammers favourites Tony Gale, Brian Dear, George Parris, Billy Jennings, Martin Allen and Paul Brush were all in attendance.

Luckily, the squally weather didn’t spoil the day, which was organised by Len Herbert of Mandeville Promotions as a continuation of the West Ham-themed events regularly held at Frinton.

As well as supporting Prostate Cancer UK, Len and his family have also helped raise more than £100,000 for the Bobby Moore Bowel Cancer charity.

The winning team in the Texas Scramble was captained by Martin Allen and following the golf there was a silent auction for an impressive range of donated gifts, including one of Harry Kane’s signed football boots.

Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

Frinton competed in the Boudica Challenge Bowl, along with the hosts Colchester, plus Harwich and Dovercourt, Clacton, and Braintree.

The trophy was won by Clacton with the runners-up Frinton, for whom Sandra Balderstone and Steve Lyons were the highest-scoring pairing.

One of the club’s main competitions for men was held – the Alfred Symes handicap trophy and the Hamilton Scratch Cup, with the latter also counting towards the Club Championship.

The runaway winner of the Alfred Symes was Andrew Bailey with a nett 67, with Harry Sanderson on 71 and Carl Rulton a shot behind.

In the Scratch event, Tig Tanner and Sanderson both went round in 77 shots, and Ashley Long, Brady Diplock, and Bailey finished with 80.

Members of the Kirby course played for the Jubilee Cup, with Colin Harris winning on countback from James Clarke, after both players scored 39 points.

The ladies Bronze team played their final match at Benton Hall, winning 3-2 to book a quarter-final spot.

Frinton juniors were represented in The Faldo Wedge competition at Gosfield Lake by Hadley Stringer, Daniel Keary, and Daniel Jiggens.

Frinton came a creditable fifth out of 29 in the team event and in the individual competition, Hadley Stringer was sixth place out of the 86 entrants, with 37 points.
