CLACTON Golf Club's seniors travelled to Harwich and Dovercourt to compete in the 2016 Cyril Rand Trophy.
Shortly after the death of this very popular former member of both clubs, it was decided to hold a match in his memory.
Wife Janet Rand thanked all the competitors and announced that Harwich were the winners by 6½ matches to 4½.
She then awarded the trophy to Harwich captain P Brown and said she hopes to see all the players at next year’s match at Clacton.
Results: Clacton captain Tony Burnside and Ray Crossfield lost 3&2 against Harwich captain P Brown and G W Carter, Chris Marshall and Doug Nichols lost 6&5 against N Howells and D A Day, Malcolm Pitcher and John Stuck lost 4&3 against S Hurst and G Hales, Alan Price and Peter Wiggins won 4&3 against B Austin and J Bishop, Malcolm Taylor and Brian Longmead halved with B Hindley and M Stenton, Richard Weeks and vice-captain John Kemp lost 3&2 against S O'Hara and A Scott, Laurie Farrugia and Brian Clarke lost 3&2 against Steve Dow and M Brasier, Nigel Martin and Derek Woodrow won one-up against Barry Wheatly and Ron Evans, John Wacker and John Fisher lost two-down against T Dumper and P Townsend, Terry Musselwhite and Barry Lungius won 3&2 against R Turner and R Sexton, John Willson and Bob Clark won 4&2 against Charlie Dennis and A Boddy.
Meanwhile, Clacton played the Canny Ryall Vase, presented to the club in 1927 by Dr Canny Ryall.
It is unique because in this competition ladies and gentlemen compete on a level playing field.
However, the last lady to win outright was Angela Barratt in 2007.
The 2016 winner was Simon Ivory, returning a good score of 85-18-69, on countback from Brian Stringer, with 84-17-67.
In third place was Joseph Reeves, with 93-24-69.
The highest-placed lady in the 2016 competition was Katy Yates.
Clacton's juniors played the Janet Green Trophy, on Saturday morning.
The winner was Henry Goodwin, with 37 points.
In second was Wilf Elliott, with 36, and in third was Katy Yates, with 35.
Clacton's ladies played their September Medal and the winner was Julia Hewett, with 100-31-69 and a new handicap of 28.
In second place was the club's lady captain Gilly Cullen, with 94-22-72, and in third was Sue Gurry, with 102-28-74.
