FRINTON Golf Club held their annual meeting to elect new officers and vote on several resolutions.
Peter Webster was duly elected club captain and Angela Vaughan was voted in as lady captain.
Webster’s second-in-command is David Joshua and the new lady vice-captain is Marilyn Clarke.
New general committee members are Luc Gagne, Adrian Joshua, Simon Martin-Redman, Murray Northover and Simon O’Brien.
Robert Morgan was re-elected chairman. The meeting over-ran, so the captains had to complete their drive-ins in the dark.
On Good Friday, the first round of the club championship took place.
Called the Hamilton Scratch medal, it is played simultaneously with the Alfred Symes Cup – an 18-hole medal with a handicap limit of 24.
The winners of both competitions were Hamish Stubbs, with a 69 gross/64 nett, James Hide, with 72/69, Harry Tweedy, with 75/70, Jake Wells, with 80/70, and Joe Bushell, with 75/70.
All these players will go on to the Filmer Bennett semi-final, except for Wells who is a junior and therefore not eligible.
The Texas Scramble held prior to the AGM was a difficult test because the wind was cold and strong.
The mixed team of Gavin Cowell, Caroline Grey and Dick Groves showed their talent, winning with 63.3 nett.
In second were Paul Mutton, Ed Glease and Hamish Stubbs, with 64.2.
Harry Tweedy, Freddy Brett and Stuart Summers were in third, with 65.7. The ladies played in bright sunshine on their day last week and it felt very spring-like.
It was a stableford competition and Yvonne Davies finished out in front with 33 points.
Two ladies finished with 29, but Jan Wright was awarded second place on countback, ahead of Michelle Lawton.
It was a good turnout, with 24 ladies participating.
The Alan’s Putter men’s event had to be postponed on Easter Monday due to gale-force winds.
