CLACTON Golf Club played host to Five Lakes in their first-round Daily Mail Team Matchplay Championship tie.
Clacton’s team was non-playing captain Terry Hewett, Tony Chandler, who halved his match, Adam Stringer, who won two-up, Steve Chigwell, playing his first match for Clacton and winning one-up, Glen Wiggins, who won two and one, and John Charles, who lost a very tight match one-down.
This gave Clacton a 3½-1½ victory and a place in the second round.
Clacton’s ladies played a Team Waltz and it was well suited to lady captain Gilly Cullen, who, along with partner Kath Sinnott, returned a winning score of 53 points.
They won on countback from Chris Crossfield, Pat Cook and Mary Cole.
In third place, with 50 points, were Angela Barrett, Pat Gilbert and Judy Speck.
Clacton’s men played their February stableford and the winner was Steve Singleton, with 46 points.
In second was Max Smith, with 43, and in third was Daniel Howard-King, with 42. Clacton’s juniors played their February stableford and the winner was Max Smith, with 42 points.
In second was George Fuller, with 33, on countback from Henry Goodwin, also with 33.

Winning this well-attended competition was past captain Ray Fage, with 40 points.
In second place was Doug Nichols, with 39, and in third was Brian Chapman, with 38, on countback from Peter Wiggins.
Clacton’s Pheasant Puckers Golf Society have reflected on their successful 2015.
Captain Terry McTear welcomed Judith Anderson, the East Anglia regional fund-raiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust, to the West Road club.
He was pleased to hand over a cheque for £2,333 – the money raised during his year as captain. The Pheasant Pluckers meet every Wednesday through the summer months and have been doing so for the last 25 years.
They will be starting their season again on March 30, with Alf Smith their captain for 2016.
