THERE was a wet and windy start to the Valentine’s Day greensomes stableford at Frinton Golf Club.
This is one of the most popular mixed events of the year.
Twenty-four pairs battled the elements and the course, but the scores were surprisingly good for the most part.
There were not enough ladies to go around, so there were two categories of prizes.
In the mixed category, sweethearts Peter and Caroline Gard were the winners with 39 points.
Lily Taylor and Scotty Boyle came second on countback, just ahead of junior captain Claire Vaughan and her partner Rob Long.
In the men’s pairings, Alan Keyte and Nigel Anderson won with 40.
Gary Bishop and John Harding finished in second with 39.
The ladies faced heavy winds again on their day.
The format was a foursomes stableford and the finishers really showed their mettle and determination.
In winning form again, Caroline Gard and partner Yvonne Davies came in first with 25 points.
Second place went to Judy Taylor and Angela Low, with 19.
