FRINTON’S golfers got off to a great start in the first round of the Mail on Sunday Team Challenge.
There were five matches against Harwich and Frinton won 4½-½.
The match was played in fantastic spirit all around.
One notable match was Alan Keyte’s, which he halved against an opponent with a handicap of three.
The shot of the day was Hamish Stubbs’ second on the ninth, into the hole from 150 yards out for an eagle.
Twelve hearty souls fought the fierce wind to compete in the Friday stableford event.
The scores reflected just how difficult the going was.
The winner was Alan Dunt, with 28 points.
Simon Parks came in second, with 26. Three men finished with 25 points, but Barry Webb was awarded third place on countback, ahead of John Coupland and Malcolm Boucher.
