CLACTON Golf Club’s successful ladies’ section held their winter Four Clubs and a Putter competition.
Captain Gilly Cullen announced that the winner was 2015 lady captain Julia Hewett, with 27 points.
In second was Sue Carter, with 25, on countback from Lorna Forder, in third, and fourth-placed Brenda Lord.
The course was presented in excellent condition by head greenkeeper Alan Smith.
He and his team have done a wonderful job in keeping it fully playable, in the wet conditions.
Meanwhile, Clacton’s juniors played their first competition of 2016 on Saturday morning.
Their eighth winter Top Dog competition was a stableford and it was won by Henry Goodwin, with 38 points.
In second was Wilf Eillott, with 36, and in third was junior captain Josh Bethell, with 28. Fourth place went to George Fuller, with 27.
On Sunday morning, Clacton’s men played their seventh winter Top Dogs pairs competition.
The 2016 matches started with a pairs medal and scoring was low, with the winning pair of Phil Green and Kevin Turnbull returning a nett 56.
In second place were David Lee and Keith Sampson, with a nett 58, on countback from third-placed Nick Smith and Gary Lee, also with a nett 58. In fourth place were Peter Hart and Simon Thomas, with a nett 57.
Clacton’s seniors played their eighth winter Top Dogs pairs competition on Monday morning.
The winners were Laurie Farrugia and Dave Gilbert, with 48 points.
In second were Norman and Richard Borstal, with 44, and in third were Robert Gillespie and Graham Smith, with 43.
