KATY Yates travelled to the Alcadesia Golf Resort in southern Spain to compete in the Junior European Golf Championship.
The Clacton Golf Club junior had qualified earlier in the year and was joined by 120 boys and girls from all over Europe.
Not only did she face daunting heathland and links courses, which are long and very tough, with fast greens, the wind was really blowing.
Yates did well in her first big event and hoped to make the cut to get into the last two days.
However, it was not to be and she lost out by just one shot.
Meanwhile, Clacton’s juniors’ section played their latest Junior Top Dog competition on Saturday morning.
The winner of round seven was Henry Goodwin, with 35 points.
In second was junior captain Josh Bethell, with 35, and in third was Wilf Elliott, with 26.
Clacton’s seniors played their fifth Top Dogs event on Monday morning and the winners were Ray Crossfield and Peter Wiggins, with 45 points.
They won on countback from John Richmond and Dave Holden, also with 45 points, on countback from third-placed Stan Justice and Dave Gilligan, again with 45.
