GILLY Cullen is the new ladies’ captain at Clacton Golf Club.
Surrounded by lady members, she drove into office with an excellent drive of 135 yards.
Afterwards she announced that her chosen charity will be Spinal Research.
Cullen previously won the England Golf Australian Spoons competition, along with playing partner Brenda Lord.
Meanwhile, Clacton held their annual Christmas Turkey Shoot competition.
The lucky winners were Gary Lee, with 44 stableford points, followed by Simon Barns and Steve Black, with 41, Danny Thomas, with 40, Kevin Hill, with 39, and Brian Stringer, Alan Hutley and Matt Heffer, with 38.
All the winners will receive a £30 voucher.
On Sunday morning, Clacton’s golfers played the Christmas Foursomes Turkey Shoot.
This interesting format is played in pairs, playing with one ball and taking alternate shots.
It was won by past captain Peter Hewett and Alf Smith, with 44 points.
Other winners were Keith Sampson and Dave Lee, with 41, and past captain Geoff Manning and Walter Damant, Nigel Martin and Simon Barns and Phil Tipple and Ian Johnston, all with 40.
Cliff Cullen and Mark Hulstrum and Simon Ivory and Dave Connelly managed 39 and Bradley Broughton and Bernie Farrell finished with 38.
All the winners will receive £30 vouchers.
Clacton’s seniors’ section played their December stableford on Monday morning.
The winner, with an excellent score of 43 stableford points, was seniors’ past captain Bob Seggie.
In second was Doug Nichols, with 39, and in third was Mike Gurry, with 38.
