JASON Levermore is confident he can cap his superb year by firing his club to historic back-to-back Golfplan Insurance PGA Pro-Captain Challenge titles.
The Channels PGA professional, who grew up in Clacton, will tee up with club captain Graeme Harvey when he returns to Antalya Golf Club – the scene of the club’s triumphant visit this time last year – on November 25.
The £25,000 championship, which is supported by Canopius and will take place over the resort’s PGA Sultan Course, has not once been defended in its 23-year history.
But former Clacton County High School student Levermore is feeling confident after a summer playing in some of golf’s biggest events, including the British Masters and the BMW PGA Championship.
He has already secured a slice of history this year after being part of the first Great Britain and Ireland team to win the PGA Cup on American soil in September.
He gets on well with Harvey, a 16-handicapper and member of Channels for 18 years, having qualified from the John O’Gaunt regional qualifier with him in August.
And he admitted the prospect of a second victory is already making waves at the club.
“I played with Neil Hutchinson last year and he really enjoyed it,” said Levermore.
“He’s already been winding Graeme up – it’s created a bit of rivalry around the club.
“Obviously it would be a great achievement going out there and becoming the first club to win it back-to-back.
“It’s a great event and a great venue.
“We’re just hoping the weather’s nice and we can go out there and do it.
“I feel we’re more than capable of winning it.
“I always feel that I can go out there and shoot four, five or six birdies and then your captain shoots a couple more you’ll always be up there near the top of the leaderboard.
“Graeme’s certainly capable of that.
“He’s a very good player and is a good driver of the ball.
“He’ll get the ball in play and from there I’ll just help to guide him round.”
