CLACTON Golf Club’s juniors travelled to Frinton for this year’s Sainsbury Cup.
Home advantage was evident on the immaculately-presented Frinton links.
Clacton’s team comprised junior captain Josh Bethell, Ben Rendell, Riley Faulkner, Katy Yates, Wilf Elliott, Sam Bruce and Henry Goodwin.
Junior captain Claire Vaughan, Reece Balls, Lee Thompson, Jake Wells, Ryan Forecast, Stephen Vaughan and Lily Taylor made up the Frinton team and it was they who won 5-2.
Meanwhile, Clacton members travelled to Frinton for the annual Bentley Cup.
They lost on a course that was presented in first-class condition.
After a good day’s golf, Clacton captain Steve Parks presented the Bentley Cup to Frinton captain Malcolm King.
Clacton’s ladies’ section played the Daily Mail Foursomes and the winners, with a nett score of 70.5, were lady captain Julia Hewett and Sonja Strutt.
In second were Fiona Cope and Di Kedge, with a nett 71, and in third were Brenda Lord and vice-captain Gilly Cullen, with a nett 75.5.
Clacton members played for the Lifeboat Cup, with Stephen W Smith returning a winning score of 86-18-68, on countback from second-placed Brian Walker, who had 84-16-68.
In third was Peter J J Wright, with 93-24-69.
Clacton seniors’ captain Joe Middleton welcomed Brian Hunwicke and his team from Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club.
The Clacton team of Middleton, vice-captain Tony Burnside, John Crick, Robert Gillespie, John Willson, Rick Hale, Doug Nicholls, John Wacker, Alf Smith, Bob Seggie, Maurice Tarrant, Norman Starling, Laurie Faurriga, Brian Viercant, Robin Routh and Ken Hilton drew 4-4.
It means they did not lose a home match all season.
Clacton’s seniors’ section played their October stableford and the winner was Tony Mann, returning 40 stableford points from his 28 handicap.
In second was John Richmond, with 39 points from his 15 handicap, on countback from third-place Mick Curwood, also with 39 points from his 27 handicap.
In fourth was Barry Iungius, with 38 points.
Clacton’s ladies played their vets/rest stableford on Tuesday morning.
The winner was Brenda Lord, with 35 points.
In second was Chris Crossfield, with 34 points, on countback from third-placed Linda Puntschart. In fourth was Mary Cole, with 33.
