FRINTON Cricket Club’s Mark Jones is stepping down as captain – and says the time is right to let someone else take charge.
The ex-Clacton skipper has had a hugely-successful three years in the hot-seat and could finish on the ultimate high, with his side winning the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League title.
Frinton are second in the table and now just ten points behind leaders Swardeston, following Saturday’s brilliant 133-run victory at home to Saffron Walden.
Jones’ side are in the thick of the title race but he says that whatever happens, he will be handing over the captaincy to someone else.
“I’m not sure what I’m going to do in terms of playing, but I’ve made it common knowledge that I’m stepping down as captain,” he said.
“Something had to give and I was finding it hard to juggle my cricket with family commitments and work pressure.”
