CLACTON Golf Club lady captain Julia Hewett held her Captain’s Day.
The stableford competition was won in style by Fiona Cope, with 35 points.
She triumphed on countback, ahead of rival Denise Pink.
In third place, with 33 points, was Di Kedge, on countback from Mary Cole.
In fifth place was Chris Crossfield, with 32 points, on countback from Sue Carter.
Shirley Whiston won nearest the pin.
Solicitors Thompson, Smith and Puxon provided the prizes and afterwards Hewett thanked all the ladies for a great day and announced the collections for her charity, SENSE, have raised nearly £1,000.
Meanwhile, seniors captain Joe Middleton welcomed 80 members to his Captain’s Day.
In first place was Malcolm Taylor, with 40 points, on countback from Bill Highstead.
In third was John Kemp, with 38.
The winner of the nine-hole competition was Ken Moore and in second place was Frank Ficken.
Nearest the pin winners: Second hole - Brian Wiggins; Fifth hole - Alf Smith; Seventh hole - Bill Austin; 15th hole - Brian Clark; 17th hole - Malcolm Taylor.
Nearest the pin with a second shot at the 12th was Steve Hurved.
A raffle raised £315 for charity and the winners were Bill Clark, Ian Wenham and Robert Gillespie.
Clacton’s juniors welcomed their counterparts from Stoke-by-Nayland, for the last of their Essex Golf Union Youth Shield matches.
Having won the previous four, Clacton hoped to make it a clean sweep before playing in the knockout section of this prestigious county trophy.
Results: Ben Rendell lost two-down to Sam O’Brian; Max Smith lost four and two to Callum Hensby; Riley Faulkner won three and two against Alex English; captain Josh Bethell won nine and eight against Sam Nixon and Katy Yates won seven and six against Henry Day.
Clacton enjoyed a good win and now look forward to playing in the quarter-finals on August 1, against Orsett Golf Club.
This match will be played at Benton Hall Golf Club.
Clacton played the July Men’s Medal.
In division one (for handicaps of 12 and below), the winner was Chay Pratt (70-2-6), on countback from David Wilding (79-11-68).
In third place was Andy Hobbs, with 72-3-69.
In division two (for handicaps of 13 and above), the winner was Simon Barns, with 81-13-68.
In second was Bob Foster, with 84-15-69, and in third was Cliff Cullen, with 83-13-70.
Holes-in-one were achieved by Barns and Wilding.
Clacton members played in the Midweek Medal and the winner was Cullen, with 81-15-66.
In second was Chris Reval, with 89-22-67, on countback from third-placed Riley Faulkner, with 74-7-67.
