PETER Thurlow was the first winner of Millers Barn Golf Park’s inaugural Ray Casemore Memorial Cup.
The CHAPS Society event is to be played each year, as close as possible to the anniversary of Ray’s death.
Ray was one of the original society members and well-known and respected by all.
The trophy was played for in a stableford format and Thurlow became the first winner after returning 37 points.
Second place went to Mike Scott, beating Jeff Cripps on countback, who in turn pipped Dennis Bruce on countback. All three managed 32 points.
The front nine winner was Doreen Brand and the back nine winner was Scott.
Both managed 19 points.
Nearest the pins were also played for on the ninth.
The men’s winner was Thurlow and the ladies’ winner was Muriel Warbey.
Meanwhile, the second round of the CHAPS’ eclectic competition was held and the winner was Mel White, returning 83-23-63.
Second place went to Frank Warbey, returning 82-17-65, and third place to Alan Brand, with 91-25-66.
The front nine winner was Alan Brand, with a nett 31, and the back nine winner was Thurlow, with a nett 31.
Both were on par for each of the nine holes.
