GOLFERS travelled from far and wide to take part in Clacton’s Ladies’ Open.
Lady captain Julia Hewett handed out the prizes and in first place were Sheila Cook and Angela Robinson, from The Essex.

Seventh hole: Penny Lang (Colne Valley). 15th hole: Wendy Handford (The Essex). 17th hole: Carolyn Overall (The Essex).
Meanwhile, Clacton juniors Wilf Elliott and Riley Faulkner, accompanied by assistant PGA professional Sam Teer, travelled to Colne Valley to play in the Essex PGA Junior Pro-Am.
Elliott played to his handicap, while Faulkner was eight shots under his, returning a level par 72.
Teer had four birdies to provide his team with a good win by a clear six shots.
Clacton’s ladies’ section and Pheasant Pluckers Society joined together for their annual Texas scramble.
Hewett and Pheasant Pluckers captain Terry McTear advised all the players of their team allocation, with two ladies and two men per team.
Steph Smith, Denise Pink, Wally Damant and Robin Dear won with eight birdies and ten pars to give an outrageous nett score of 50.46.
Clacton’s seniors’ section travelled to The Essex Golf and Country Club for their annual home and away match, played in a scorching 34C.
The team of captain Joe Middleton, vice-captain Tony Burnside, Jim Wiggam, Bill Highstead, Dave Gilbert, Alf Smith, Bob Seggie, John Wacker, John Crick, Derek Woodrow, Ray Fage, Brian Viercant, John Willson, Robin Routh, Robert Gillespie and Laurie Farrugia suffered a narrow 4½-3½ defeat.
The return match is at Clacton on September 14.
The Essex Golf Union’s Amateur Championship was held at Colchester.
Two players – James Allen (Chelmsford) and Jay Beisser (The Rayleigh) – both returned scores of 274.
In the resulting play-off, Allen won and was crowned champion for 2015.
Clacton had four members playing.
Jonathan Hewett led the way for the club by returning 290 for 21st place.
Matt Baker returned 292 for 25th and 15-year-old Ben Rendell did very well to return 303 for 40th.
Jamie Read, who, at the first hole, pulled a back muscle, tried hard but never really recovered and unfortunately missed the cut.
Clacton’s juniors played their July stableford and the winner was Wilf Elliott, with 36 points from his 23 handicap.
He won on countback from second-placed Josh Bethell, also with 36 points from his eight handicap.
In third was Katy Yates, with 35 points from her nine handicap.
Clacton’s ladies’ section played The America’s Cup and the winner was Jennie Corbyn, who returned 91-22-69.
In second was Fiona Cope, with 86-14-72, and in third was lady vice-captain Gilly Cullen, with 98-25-73.
Clacton’s seniors’ section played their July Medal and the winner was vice-captain Tony Burnside, who returned 77-14-63 and a handicap cut by three shots to 11.
In second was Brian Veircant, returning 91-20-71 and having his handicap cut to 19.
In third was John Holt, playing steady golf to return 86-12-73.
