CLACTON Golf Club’s ladies and seniors joined forces to compete for the Cripps Trophy.
Brenda Lord and Colin Woollard triumphed with 38 stableford points, beating the second-placed pairing of Pat Gilbert and Ray Fage (36).
In third were Heather Bradfield and Geoff Manning, with 35.
Lady captain Julia Hewett welcomed Forrester Park’s ladies for the penultimate match in this season’s Essex County Harris Bowl.
Clacton went into the contest in second place and their team consisted of captain Sonja Strutt, Denise Pink, Heather Bradfield, Jennie Corbyn and Hewett.
All played well against strong, well-prepared opposition and they held on to win by the closest of margins, by three matches to two. In the last match of the series, Clacton will travel to Basildon on Saturday.
Clacton’s seniors section travelled to Forrester Park to play the annual away section of the 2015 matches.
Their team was captain Joe Middleton, vice-captain Tony Burnside, John Willson, Bill Clarke, Jim Wiggam, Mick Curwood, Robin Routh, Peter Wiggins, Laurie Farrugia, Robert Gillespie, Fage, Maurice Tarrant, Dave Gilbert, Alf Smith, Brian Viercant and John Wacker.
All played well but home advantage was evident as the hosts won by seven matches to one.
Seniors captain Middleton welcomed vice-captain Ralph Deex and his team from Fynn Valley.
It was the first-ever match between the clubs.
Local knowledge proved a big advantage for the Clacton team of Middleton, Burnside, Peter Cross, Fage, Bill Highstead, Robin Routh, Dave Mills, Smith, Mick Curwood, Norman Borstel, Doug Nichols, Don Dunham, Rick Hale, Manning, Derek Woodrow and Willson.
They won all the matches except one.
Clacton’s men played for the Eagle Steamship Trophy and the winners were Jamie Read and Jonathan Hewett, with a best ball stableford score of 44 points.
In second were Ricky Hawkins and Kyle Green, with 43, and in third were Brady Diplock and Gary Lee, with 42.
Clacton hosted their annual ladies’ guest day.
As well as praising all the ladies that took part, lady captain Hewett thanked organiser Jackie Bright, Graham Smith, Bob Foster and Jeff Sinnott. The winners, with 114 points, were Hewett and Harwich and Dovercourt ladies’ captain Linda Burrows and Denise Pink Frinton ladies’ captain Tracey Taylor.
In second, with 106 points, were Brenda Lord and Pip Macauley (Colchester) and Angela Low (Frinton) and Bridget Whitworth (Colchester).
Third place went to Angela Barratt and Diane Lancaster (Waldringfield) and Heather Bradfield and Margaret Horner (Berkhamsted), with 103.
Nearest the pin winners were Bradfield and guest Pip Macauley (Colchester).
Nearest the line were Judy Speck, from Clacton, and guest Margaret Horner (Berkhamsted).
