CLACTON’S golfers celebrated a fantastic victory in the Boudica Challenge Bowl, hosted by coastal neighbours Frinton.
The wind made scoring very difficult in this mixed greensomes stableford competition.
Clacton won with 132 points, followed by Braintree and Frinton, who both managed 128.
Colchester were fourth with 123, while Harwich and Dovercourt managed 108.
It is the first time Clacton have won the Bowl since 2007.
The Clacton scores were: Lady captain Julia Hewett and Steve Parkes 33 points, Jennie Corbyn and Steve Scott 29, Di Kedge and Clayton Jeffrey 32, Chris Crossfield and Alan Hearn 33, lady vice-captain Gilly Cullen and Peter Hewett 34 and Denise Pink and Kevin Hill 31.
The leading pair overall were Colchester’s John Dornan and Hannah Butcher, with 34 points.
The nearest the pin winners were both from Frinton.
Malcolm King was victorious on the third hole (6ft 8ins), while Sheila Attrill prevailed on the 16th (10ft 1ins).
Five clubs competed, with six pairs per team and the aggregate of the best four scores to count.
The inaugural Boudica Challenge Bowl was played in 1993, at Braintree.
