You may or may not have heard of Benelux Day. Observed on September 5, 2024, it marked the 80th anniversary of the Benelux Customs Agreement. The oldest is Cantecroy which dates back as far as 869 and was visited by Albert Einstein while waiting for his visa to the US. It’s now a restaurant but tours are available to see the castle in all its glory.
One of the world’s most stereotyped countries, the Netherlands, and particularly Amsterdam, is often associated with tulips, windmills and Gouda cheese but what about Delftware? Named after the Dutch town which started manufacturing the typically blue and white pottery in 1653, only one of the 30 pottery factories remain in Delft. De Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles is now the Royal Delft Museum, dedicated to sharing the history of the age-old craft of this iconic pottery.
Ranked among the world’s richest countries, Luxembourg offers some pretty top-notch sparkling white wines. From Wasserbillig to Schengen, along the Moselle River, world-class wine tasting should be a mandatory part of a visit!
It also offers free public transport on trains, buses, trams and the funicular railway – not just for residents, but visitors too!
