Our Awards

We achieved CQC status of “Home of Excellence” in 2004 ,& since then the goal of our family run home has been to keep improving so as to maintain the excellence. In 2009 we were awarded for innovation by Essex CC for our activities project to Engage the Community  and in 2012 won the Team of the Year award from Essex CC.

Our Lovely Environment

The Home is beautifully furnished, set in charming landscaped gardens, close to the sea. The home has a magnificent garden room for all our residents to relax and enjoy throughout the winter and summer. A lovely cinema lounge with internet facilities aims to maximize choice & independence. Bedrooms are tastely decorated each with telephone & television points & state of the art call bells.

We have recently added a pamper room, as we believe we all deserve to be made to feel special at times.

Stimulation & Person Centred Care

We believe in offering a wide variety of opportunity for activities based on personal preferences. We understand our residents are individuals.

Our activities coordinator is also incharge of our volunteers & engaging the community. We have IT tutoring, schools lead project on weekly basis, library reading group, gardening club (lead by a resident), regular theme days, community knitting club, cooking club, regular outside visits.. We have a focus on health, increasing exercise through yoga & nutrition intake by residents. 

By inviting in the community we feel we are further safeguarding our residents by this open approach, as well as providing additional companionship & opportunities for activity.

Our Delicious Dining        

The main dining room is something of a focus in the Home with the residents enjoying the atmosphere and the company of others, as well as savouring the wholesome, fresh and varied meals prepared by our cooks.

A delicious choice of meals is always available. Residents meetings are held seasonally with the chef to ensure menus are varied accordingly

The Energetic Team that Cares

The Corner House takes pride on training their staff to adopt a warm, friendly and person centred approach so as to deliver the highest quality care.

The manager’s (awarded best manager 2012 by ECC) happy & energetic ethos has lead to issues being dealt with promptly , vibrancy & opportunities for activities for residents & openness to suggestions. 

We have evolved to have a focus on emotional needs & offering genuine companionship in addition to physical care, & the ethos of happily dealing with “change” has been the key to moving forward.

Monthly leadership meetings have strengthened Communication and quality assurance (QA) across the home.  New resident welcome packs, and personalised care plans are amongst some of the Quality Assurance improvements from feedback. 

My Home Life & Always Looking to Improve

We are an advocate of the My Home Life Movement since 2005, & our manager undertook the development training which has lead to organising a problem solving group for care homes.   We are always keen to be involved in pilots leading to improvements: Drs in a car, District Nurses Crisis Response, Palliative Care in Homes & Emergency Admission pilot.  The team participate in strategy groups: Better Hospital Transfer Network and developing the ECC quality improvement framework.
