A SPORTS club in Clacton could shut if plans for 13 new homes are given the go-ahead.
Wick Lodge Squash Centre, behind the Wick Lodge pub in Jaywick Lane, could be knocked down to make way for houses and flats.
They would replace the four squash courts and accommodation, which were built in the 1980s, as well as a large parking area.
Mick Dunnett, who runs a squash league at the centre, said: “There have been rumours flying around, but this is the first time we have heard anything about plans.
“It will be a real bodyblow.
“If there are no courts, we can’t play, as it is the only squash facility in Clacton.
“As far as the squash players are concerned, those who don’t give up will have to go to Brightlingsea, Harwich or Frinton.
The pub will be unaffected by the plans.
