Evening WI
PRESIDENT Pat Willis welcomed members and visitors to the May meeting. Business included preparing a list for help at the Village Day on August 13, when the WI will be serving teas and manning a cake stall. A poetry competition, and a special service at St Osyth Church on June 30, at 7.30pm. Birthday buttonholes were presented to Christine Dykes, Margaret Patrick and Pat Willis.

The speaker Quintus Benziger was introduced and began his talk with a marvellous rendition of Jerusalem, members immediately standing up and singing. He spoke on the history of the pianoforte, how it works and demonstrated the way it worked.

He also spoke on the history and usage of recorder, flutes and violins. A most enjoyable and instructive evening. Kay Sadler thanked him on behalf of the members.

The competition for a teddy bear was won by Pat Mitchell with Pat Willis second and Rae Hunt won the raffle.

Next month’s meeting is on June 8, at 7.45pm, in the village hall, when the competition is for an old-fashion child’s toy.
