ON March 9, members heard an interesting talk on container gardening by Richard Ford, of Park Green Nurseries. Richard and his wife Mary have won many gold medals for their hostas, grasses and perennials. Members saw many pictures of the different sorts of plants and containers which could be used to make the best displays. Members hope to visit the nursery in Wetheringsett, Suffolk, in the summer.
Several activities are planned, beginning with a coffee morning at 101 Holland Road on March 23 at 10.30am.
The competition was for a pot plant which had been nurtured for some time and the results were: 1st a lovely yellow orchid from Anne Massingham, 2nd Gill Whiting and 3rd Vena Finlayson. Members were asked to make as many words as possible from mesem bryanthemum, Kate Giddings won with 80 words.
The next meeting is on April 13, when Sue Coleman will speak about life in Spain and the competition will be for a decorated hard-boiled egg. Visitors always made welcome to the meeting in the village hall, Little Clacton at 7.30pm.
