Weeley and Little Clacton Royal British Legion
THE Weeley and Little Clacton branch of the Royal British Region, having recently reformed after a two year closure, held its first poppy social on October 30, in the Little Clacton village hall.
It was opened by deputy lieutenant of Essex, Mrs Bonnie Hill JP, who was escorted into the hall by the Colchester pipes and drums, and the president of the branch Mr David Crux, along with the chairman Mr Gary Kirkham and councillor Mr Peter Balbirnie MBE.
Bonnie Hill presented the president and chairman their chains of office, and local girl Wren Symes, age seven, whose parents run the Blackmith’s Arms in Little Clacton, with a certificate and necklace for collecting for the poppy appeal 2009.
Entertainment was provided by the Kingfisher Twirlers, with music provided by Cream and Honey, and the highlight of the afternoon was the Colchester pipes and drums. There was also a buffet and raffle.
