Parish Church.
DURING the family service on June 6, a Millennium cross-stitch picture was donated to the church by Pat Mitchell.
The picture depicts the solar system surrounded by notable events during the last Millennium and was dedicated by the Rev Pauline Scott in memory of Pat’s husband George who died in 2003.
Evening WI.
JUNE’s meeting was the members’ meeting and President Rae Hunt welcomed members and guests.
The entertainment began with Betty and Peter giving a hilarious dialogue as ‘Hardy and Nelson’ picking up on all the politically correct and health and safety measures which would have affected the Battle of Trafalgar if it had happened today.
Peter Reilly then went on to entertain during the delicious supper with his magic tricks.
After supper, Keith Lovell told members about the history of sea shanties and led the meeting in some hearty singing.
The competition for ‘a boat’ was won by Josie Chilver. .
Members were reminded of the cake and bake to be held at the home of Chris Dykes in Church Road on June 25 from 10am–2pm in aid of the MS Society.
At the next meeting, members will enjoy a meal at Scooby Snacks followed by a treasure hunt in Brightlingsea.
Flower Festival.
THE festival, held on June 12- 13, proved to be a great success. The church had been beautifully decorated by a team of arrangers organised by Kay Sadler and Pat Willis, local organisations had sponsored some of the arrangements.
The subject was book titles, and entries ranged from childrens books to classics with the altar representing the Bible.
There were stalls and a raffle on the Saturday and delicious refreshments were served on both days.
The main talking point was the ‘toilet pan’, which proved a very successful collecting point as the aim is to have a toilet in the church in the near future.
Saturday evening saw a Summer Recital in the church by the organist, Peter Clayton who played on the harpsichord he had built himself, accompanied by Julie Harmer on the flute. They played a delightful selection of music by Bach, Blavet, Vinci and Quantz.
At the end of the weekend the marvellous total of £1500 had been raised.
