Evening W.I.
PRESIDENT Pat Willis opened the April meeting. After welcoming members, she asked for help serving teas in the church on this Saturday’s Blue Bell Day, and announced that a cake bake morning is to be arranged for June 25 as a fund raiser for the MS Society.
Birthday buttonholes were presented to Kay Sadler and Josie Chilver.
The speaker was Mary Pilkington who stepped in at short notice and gave an entertaining talk on her many competition entries and some of the interesting and envious prizes she has won over the years.
The competition for a powder compact was won by Marion Rawlings with Sue Canham second. Patricia Woodward won the raffle.
The next meeting is on May 12 with speaker Joy Link on ‘Continuing Victorian Diaries’. The competition is for a thimble.
Parish Council.
AT the annual Parish Council meeting on April 7 it was reported that, after nearly ten years of work and hassling the village has finally got the Hazel Close play area, which has quality equipment for younger aged children and that the affordable housing development is ahead of schedule, and it is hoped the houses will be occupied by the end of this year.
problems with the level crossing were discussed and it was also announced that there will be no village day this year as no one has come forward to organise one.
During the year Councillors Peter Coleman, Colin Dewell and Kevin Wesson have all resigned. The council would like to thank them for their time and efforts, and would like to welcome Kate Miller and Andy Sadler.
