Evening W.I.

MAUREEN Sanders and two helpers spoke about the Benin Christian Support charity at the last meeting. Many pictures where shown depicting the sad state of many of the children before the charity workers had been able to help. She showed the children dressed in pretty new dresses made by a friend in Clacton and we were also able to buy shopping bags to aid the funds. Kay Sadler thanked them on behalf of the members.

A competition for a Valentine’s card was won by Rita Sharpe with Yvonne Barrell second and Christine Dykes won the raffle.

We meet next on March 11 at 7.45pm in the village hall when Peter Harrington will talk on mosaic art and the competition is for a matinee coat for the Spring Group meeting. New members are always welcome.

Good Companions.

LES announced that Ken Sharpe had offered to become chairman of the club on the understanding that the club would only hold the normal meetings in the hall each month - no outings, holidays or Thursford. After a vote from members, it was decided that after 48 years, the club would close.

Les informed members that to use the money left over in the club's bank account, he would organise a trip in the summer to a summer show in Kettering called ‘The Way We Were’.

Les thanked all those members who helped and supported him during this past year: Gordon and Stella Miles for entertaining us at the dinners with playing the organ and singing. Those members who sang with them. Val Stubbins, Joyce Dyer, Fred Mckenzie, Rita Loates, the members who helped with the teas and cleared the hall, Joan Mckenzie, Rita Loates, Ken Sharpe and his wife Mildred for her help and support these past eight years.
