On February 11 Frances Boardman spoke about famous women in history including Catherine de Medici, a very well-educated lady who invented high-heeled shoes to improve her appearance and Lucretia Borgia, the victim of a smear campaign who did not deserve her reputation.
President Anne Massingham announced that the Spring Group meeting would be on April 23 and our open meeting on April 11 when we shall have a talk by Norman Jacobs about old Clacton.
The competition, for a poem about being a woman, was won by Anne Massingham.
The evening finished with anagrams of girls names which almost everyone completed. The next meeting will be on March 11 when Anne Wood will talk about the Art of Book-binding. Visitors are always welcome at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
