Donald Trump’s win is a good thing for Britain and Clacton.

In the United Kingdom, we remember Guy Fawkes’ attempts to blow up Parliament on November 5th.

But it is no secret that last week I spent a few days in the middle of another major political plot: the re-election of Donald Trump.

It was an honour to be in the ballroom of Mar-a-Lago with Donald Trump as the results flooded in.

With no press or cameras allowed in, his family, friends and biggest supporters watched on as it gradually became clear that he’d staged the greatest political comeback of our lifetimes.

Much of the UK’s mainstream media have attacked me for being there. After 30 years in the public eye, and with Reform surging in the polls, I’m used to such cheap political point scoring.

The truth is I’m the only Member of Parliament that has supported Donald Trump since the very beginning — and on 20th January next year, he will once again be the leader of the Free World.

Whilst laying a wreath at Clacton Memorial on Armistice Day, and paying my respects to the 402 residents of Clacton-on-Sea that were killed in two world wars, I was reminded of the role that America also played, and continues to play, in our national defence. 400,000 of their citizens died in the Second World War to defend our liberty.

Equally; the United States is our biggest trading partner, and as I seek to increase investment in Clacton, it can only be a good thing to have strong and powerful ties with our friends across the pond.

Ultimately it is absolutely in Britain’s interests for us to be close to the United States; and if it is in Britain’s interests it is in Clacton’s interests too.
