A DEVASTATED mum has spoken out against the ‘disgusting injustice’ that saw a man spared jail time following a dog attack on her daughter.

Vicky Nicholson, of Manningtree, has condemned the sentence as Craig Forward was handed a suspended sentence.

In an incident last July, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier belonging to Craig’s son attacked Vicky’s then 17-year-old daughter, who needs surgery for injuries to her upper lip.

Vicky said: “Before the incident Ellie loved dogs so it’s really devastating and unfortunate that this has happened to her.

“She’s really frightened now and it’s horrible because she suffers everyday, every morning she has to see that scar on her face and the scarring on her arm as well.

“As a family we feel really betrayed by this whole ordeal.”

The incident in Oakapple Close, Colchester saw Ellie bitten on her lip, arm, elbow, wrist and leg before the dog was restrained.

Ellie is currently seeing a specialist to consistently monitor her injuries and the family has paid for a private mental health therapist.

Forward, 31, appeared in Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday and was handed an eight-month sentence, suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to carry out 25 days of rehab requirements.
