A TOWN centre road remains closed this morning after a sinkhole appeared.
West Avenue, in Clacton, has been shut between Station Road and Jackson Road.
The closure comes after a sinkhole appeared not far from the St Helena Tendring Centre.
The section of road is believed to have caved in at about 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.
It is unknown when the area will reopen to drivers.
One resident and town centre traveller, who asked to remain anonymous, says she is not surprised by the appearance of the sinkhole.
She said: "It was only a matter of time really because the road has been a problem for a while.
"Every time I would drive over that bit of road it would feel like getting whiplash."
