A MUM and her three sons are reaching high for a charity challenge in memory of her father.
Bev Fox will be facing her fears to scale the 02 in London in aid of the British Lung Foundation next month.
The 55-year-old is taking on the challenge with her partner Steve Barrett, sons Danny, Gary and Shaun, daughter-in-law Jess and Shaun’s girlfriend Sarah Vincent.
The family is raising money for the charity in memory of her “brilliant dad” and grandad to her children Peter Hindwell, from Clacton.
Peter died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease three years ago, aged 85.
Bev said: “We are doing this challenge in his memory.
“We really want to help try to make a difference to peoples lives and families, plus we are really keen to raise as much money as possible for the British Lung Foundation and would really welcome sponsorship from people.
“It was my eldest son Danny who said he wanted to do something different for charity and I said I would join him as long as it’s not too bad.
“I’m petrified of heights and of bridges.
“I joked about climbing the 02 and I can’t take it back now.”
The family want to raise £2,000 for the charity and so far think they have collected about £400.
Bev, from Main Road, Dovercourt, said: “My father was always a lively and bubbly out and about person and in the end he was just sat in his chair.
“He was on oxygen 24/7 for quite a while - it was very difficult to watch.
“We know a lot of people with COPD and it’s quite scary.
“It’s a lot to do with lifestyle, my dad smoked and I still smoke - it’s a hard habit to break and it does worry me.”
Bev, a cleaner at Dovercourt Caravan Park, is trying to prepare herself for the charity challenge and admits she is very nervous about the event.
But she said: “I won’t let it stop me, I’m looking forward to it.”
Rebekah Ahmed, events manager at the British Lung Foundation, said: “We are delighted Bev and her family will be climbing the 02 to support the British Lung Foundation.
“Every contribution makes a difference.
“Funds raised will go towards ensuring we can continue to offer vital support for people with lung disease, as well as their partners, families and friends.”
