‘ALLO ‘Allo!
Actor and Conservative candidate Giles Watling has enlisted a showbiz pal to help his General Election campaign.
Mr Watling was joined by his long-time friend Vicki Michelle, who played saucy waitress Yvette in the hit 1980s sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo!
The Tory candidate for the Clacton constituency is best known for playing Oswald the vicar in Carla Lane’s sitcom Bread.
The pair, who starred together in The Importance of Being Ernest at Frinton Summer Theatre last year, were out campaigning in Holland-on-Sea on Saturday.
Vicki said: “Giles has done so much fantastic work here and was part of the council team that got the funding for the £36million sea defence works here.
“Giles is intelligent and charming. I’ve worked with him as an actor and as a director.
“He lives here and loves this area, which is why he wants the best for the people of Clacton.”
Mr Watling added: “Vicki is a very old friend and we lived next door to each other for years.
“We ended up commuting with each other every day to the BBC rehearsal rooms when she was in ‘Allo ‘Allo! and I was in Bread. I even ended up in ‘Allo ‘Allo! with her at the end of the final series.
“Since that we have played husband and wife many times on stage.
“It’s great that she has come down to support me in my political ambitions.”
