EMERGENCY services were called to Clacton's High Street after reports of an electrical explosion.
Two fire crew from Clacton fire station were called to the scene, outside Sainsbury’s supermarket, at about 7.40am.
The police have closed the road while the incident is dealt with by UK Power Networks.
An engineer said there was a suspected explosion under the pavement.
The road was closed while the situation was investigated. Electricity was cut to a number of properties in Beach Road.
The road was reopened by 9am and it was expected that electricity would be restored to homes by 1pm.
