ST HELENA Hospice has announced the death of its longest serving resident.
Charlie the cat had lived at the hospice since he arrived there in 1997, aged two.
He was given to the hospice by a patient who had to move into a property that did not allow pets.
A spokesman said: “Many people found comfort with Charlie over the years and he soon became an integral part of the inpatient unit.
"He was often found curled up somewhere being made a fuss over by patients, their families and many of the nurses and volunteers.
She added: “Charlie will be greatly missed by all at Highwoods. He leaves behind the second cat Paddy, who the hospice is sure will continue to provide companionship and comfort to patients and families.”
Charlie died on Monday, aged 17.
