20 years ago: ARGOS, the discount catalogue showroom giants, look set to open a new store in Clacton soon. The multiple retailers confirmed this week that it had been looking at a site in the town but would not say where. According to a spokesman, nothing had yet been finalised. But an advert in the Evening Gazette for a £7,600 job as a deputy manager stated categorically that a new store was opening soon. The new store was described as part of the firm's current major expansion programme.
